Following the threat of suffering the same fate as Loncin, which fell the day before, the surrender was declared here on 16th August 1914. Thus preserved, it was nevertheless modified by the German troops to further reinforce it. Today, visitors can roam along the 1,700 metres of tunnels that link the fort to its tower.
